In the early twentieth century, the German photographer August Sander tried to photograph a whole country. Travelling and photographing, he captured the faces of people from all walks of life, preserving moments from daily life in his book ‘Face of Our Time’...

ONE BILLION FACES takes Sander’s curiosity and makes it global.
Nearly three quarters of the world is online now, so we’re wondering:

- Who are these 6 billion people?
- What can a face tell us, when you are the one holding the camera?
- And what do we look like, all together, side by side?

Using the power of the internet, we are assembling selfies from all around the world to build a panorama of humankind as internet users. Sander chose his subjects. Here, everyone chooses themselves. All the faces will be on display together, celebrating unity and diversity of language, race, culture and background.

The question we’re left with is
- What will this visual tell us about the next one billion faces to join us online?
